beck + call girl

today, i’m at the beck + call
of three brides.

three lovely, gracious brides.

but three brides, nonetheless.

oh,
the details of
weddings.

i don’t envy them;
wedding-stress is a unique animal.

and it is quite a discipline
(unattainable at times, i’m sure)
to keep perspective on
the ceremony,
the marriage,
the covenant.

whew.
seriously glad to be on this side of it,
but
seriously impressed with these
sweet girls/ladies walking thru it now
with class + style.

tonight in my sleep,
my mind will still be repeating
‘c-h-i-c-a-g-o i-l-l-i-n-o-i-s 6-0-6-1-1′
as i nod off.

ps – after this season of
writing
writing
writing,

i’m not even going to
sign a check
for 3 months.

maybe i’ll pick up a
pen in september.

to draw my ‘X’, that is.

pps – i guess i’ve been doing this
for, oh, seven or eight years now
and i bet cory is tired of hearing
my musings late at night
as i work my way thru
meticulously detailed (alphabetical) event guest lists:

a bit dejectedly: i’m still on the ‘c’s, babe.
moderately: i’m in the m’s.
with excitement: i’m on the r’s! the r’s!

and i can count on his steadyeddy reply,
‘almost there, hon.’

ppps – but it is Not Funny
when he starts making me
laugh.

humor is good,
but i cannot
write
when i’m laughing.

which of course eggs him on;
wait, i see where henry get this…

thanks for nothing, turkey.

on itunes today.

sometimes i like to mix it up
with a little tim keller,
eric clapton + ac/dc
thrown in,
just to keep it interesting.
