words for a rainy wednesday morning

7 . September . 2011

o God, our help in ages past
our hope for years to come
our shelter from the stormy blast
and our eternal home.

-isaac watts

in other words,
on this last day of summer
before our children
head back to school tomorrow,

may the Lord’s mercy coat our day,
may his grace fill our hearts,
may HIS patience and endurance and humor
flavor and infuse every interaction today,

that we will give ourselves and our kids a break,
that we will hug instead of speak,
that we will listen instead of tell,
may we serve willingly instead of counting the cost,
love and not fear,
love and not fear,
love and not fear.

He is with us
and we are his.
