prayers of the people

24 . October . 2011

it is a pleasure and a privilege to come before you tonight,

as a group of people with individual concerns and distractions
yet you have called us to come together in your name and
thus fulfill the law of Christ.

we come before you, knowing that in your presence is
fullness of joy
and pleasures evermore.

because of Christ Jesus we have the
confidence to come to you
and ask for your help.

help us, Lord, as a church.

help us to listen to You;
to listen through your word, through prayer,
through each other, to know how you would have us live.
and how you would have us serve each other and this city.

Lord, help us also listen, to each other.
as we re-form into a single congregation on the west side,
please give us grace to be patient with one another,
to be kind, compassionate, forgiving and bearing with each other.

We are weak and you are strong
and in that we rest.

help us, Lord, as a city.

we know that unless you guard this city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.
we pray for the spiritual awakening of the churches around us.

we pray for the leaders of our city;
mayor bloomberg, the members of the city council,
commissioner kelly;
may they act in a way that pleases You, not men.

help us as a city to support righteousness and goodness,
and to turn away from
temptation and

give hope to the fearful and protection to those in danger.
encourage the downtrodden and comfort the weary.

we fix our eyes on you, Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,
for you are our God forever and ever,
you will be our guide even to the end.
